Program Guidelines and Instructions

Programs must:

  • Align with MGF Goals and Strategies
  • Demonstrate effective evaluative tools and metrices including the ability to collect and report required data in the semi-annual report
  • Predict or provide evidence of program impact
  • Provide longitudinal evidence of performance and outcomes at the end of the grant cycle including the ability to demonstrate adequate return on investment and documented strategic goals.

The type of activities (goals) that support the MGF grant program are those that:

  • Identify and support financial literacy education;
  • Counseling that leads to homeownership; and
  • Train-the-trainer programs relating to goals (a) and (b) above.

These activities (goals) must provide financial literacy that leads to home ownership by working directly with members of the community without financial prejudice.

Key areas to financial literacy that lead to home ownership include the following topics:

  • Budgeting and saving
  • Building and improving credit
  • Investment – homeownership
  • Debt management
 

Application Instructions

Applicants may apply via mail or email. Applications received after midnight on the last day of the application enrollment period will not be considered.

Applicants must read and follow all application instructions and guidelines. The application must be completed in its entirety; incomplete applications will not be considered. An organization can apply once for each grant cycle.

Application Review and Selection Process

The grant coordinator assesses each application for eligibility and recommends eligible applications to the Mortgage Grant Advisory Committee (MGAC.) The MGAC reviews applications and recommends programs for selection to the SML Commissioner.  All applicants will be notified in writing of award decisions.
